Little Miss Kori Quinn

Last week the teeniest little girl I have had to date came in for her newborn session.  Miss Kori Quinn was added to the Fisher family about 3 weeks ago, surrounded by so much love with her family.  She has two big brothers to grow up with and protect her from boys that will someday break her heart.   I have been photographing her brothers and family for a little over a year, from birthday sessions, family sessions to little league photos they always keep me laughing and on my toes.

I always try to start my session with the sibling poses, esp if the siblings are young because many times they will get bored and lose interest.   I started with the biggest brother Jaxon getting him posed and ready with Kori then we added in Dylan who needed a little convincing (& possibly bribing) to get in the photo.  I have to be patient, yet quick when working with younger siblings and newborns.  After those photos were captured the boys left to run errands with their Daddy.  Once the portraits of just Kori started, Momma fed her, & we got her nice and toasty warm, told her how beautiful she was and she relaxed and was ready to pose.  LOL just like any girl, feed me and tell me I’m pretty.

Jacob and Sierra you have another precious little one!  Thank you for giving me the honor of capturing these memories for you!

My 1st Try at a Milk Bath Session

As a creative sometimes I see a session someone else has shot and want to put your own swing on it.  Milk Bath sessions seem to be the “in thing” to do lately.  The trend seemed to start with adults with boudoir & maternity and has now moved on to babies.

I knew I wanted to try one of these sessions but I didn’t want to wait on a client to request one so I looked over my client list for a baby girl who was sitting but not mobile yet.  I thought of sweet Avery so I contacted Caressa to see if she liked the idea and she loved it!

We set the date and I began studying the details, I knew the milk but what else did I need to figure out.   I got my studio really warm because I didn’t want her to be chilled, boiled water to add to warm the milk, snip the tops off of flowers and choose the right tie back.

Well like many things in life we live and learn…Think back to elementary science class when you learned about water displacement!  Fill the bowl pretty high, put a baby in and there will be some sloshing of milk all over the floor!  I have decided I like that part now and it adds character.  Check for non poisonous flowers incase the baby tries to eat them!  And sit the milk out further in advance to warm it up.

All of that being said, I can’t wait to shoot another milk bath!  Who is ready to schedule theirs?

Miss Paisley Grace

A few weeks ago I received an inquiry for a newborn session on a week that I had very limited availability.  We were getting ready to leave for summer camp with my kids and vacation.  I had already told myself not to book anymore sessions because there just wouldn’t be enough time to get everything done, but I always will schedule newborns when possible because they are truly my favorite!  I am so glad I squeezed Miss Paisley Grace in for a session because she rocked it!

Paisley was a great little one who was 14 days new and slept for most of her session minus a few diaper changes.

Before my newborns arrive I try to lay out my outfits, fabric drops, props, etc so that I am ready to go and make the session move along as smoothly as possible.  I had set out an old wooden bucket/planter that I bought a few months prior and tied a belly sash to it.  I have been wanting to use this for a few sessions but haven’t had a baby sleepy enough to do so!   Paisley has no idea how excited I was that I finally got to put it into use!

Here are a few more of my favorites from her session!  Check out those proud new parents!!!  I love seeing how my clients interact with their babies, esp the ones when it’s their first baby.  It’s just so precious and cute!!
